Discovering
Le Marche

Filodivino is ideally positioned to visit a region which, in the words of writer Guido Piovene, is “a distillate of Italy”. A long-civilized, hard-working region, the Marche are best known for the myriad of quaint medieval towns that dot a landscape where sea, hills, and mountains merge seamlessly into one another. The region boasts a rich artistic heritage – with renaissance-era Urbino making the UNESCO World Heritage Site list – and is home to no less than 13 natural parks and reserves. A centuries-long relationship between man and nature that is reflected, among other things, in the region’s extremely rich tradition of wines and dishes. The economy is centred around some of Italy’s foremost manufacturing districts, known for their high-level craftsmanship.

Towns rich in history

The town of San Marcello, which we call home, is built on a hill 233 metres above sea level. Originally settled as a colony from nearby Jesi, the town is to this day enclosed in its medieval walls. The Paolo Ferrari theatre, inside, is a true gem: one of a hundred traditional theatres that form part of the region’s heritage. Just a short distance away is Morro d’Alba, a town best known for the Lacrima wine named after it. Here as well, medieval architecture is still prominently visible. Walk the full length of the ramparts, “la scarpa”, to take in the amazing view on the surrounding countryside. These and other places of interest can be easily reached from Filodivino. Bikes are available to our guests who want to embark on a leisurely exploration of the countryside.
